WaypointGuessr – Mamuthka's own server

WaypointGuessr is a location guessing game: you are dropped somewhere in the world in street-level imagery, look around for clues, and place a pin on the map where you think you are. The closer your pin, the more points you score.

This site is Mamuthka's own noncommercial game, running at waypointguessr.com on a phone that serves as a home server. It is not the official worldguessr.com and has no connection to GeoGuessr. It is free, with no ads and no subscription.

You can play singleplayer, ranked 1v1 and 2v2 duels, unranked matches, private rooms with friends, the daily challenge, country and continent guessing, and community maps. In ranked duels each side has its own damage multiplier: whoever wins a round (closer guess) gets +0.5. Shortcuts: R – back to the round's starting point; C – drop a checkpoint, then jump back to it, then return to where you left off.

WaypointGuessr is based on Gautam Anand's source-available WorldGuessr (PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 license). Required Notice: Copyright Gautam Anand (https://worldguessr.com). This server runs its own modifications: Hungarian interface, compass strip, damage multiplier, its own music and smaller changes; the modified code is not public. The background music is CC0 (free to use) lo-fi by Holizna and Tad.

Common questions

Who runs this site?

Mamuthka, privately, for friends and acquaintances. This is not worldguessr.com, so accounts, leaderboards and apps from there do not apply here.

Does it cost anything?

No. There are no ads and no subscription. Coins are earned in ranked duels and spent on cosmetics (pins, name glows, emotes).

Do I need an account?

Not for singleplayer or the daily challenge. Ranked duels and 2v2 need an account, which also saves your stats and ELO. Sign-up is username and password only, no e-mail needed.

Is there a round limit?

No. Play as much as you like.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. Create a room and send them its code, or queue for duels together.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes, in any mobile browser. You can also add it to your home screen as an app (your browser's "Add to Home screen" option). There is no separate Google Play or App Store app for this server.

Is it the same as GeoGuessr?

No. WaypointGuessr is based on Gautam Anand's WorldGuessr, a separate game built on the same idea. Neither has anything to do with GeoGuessr.

Are my rounds recorded?

Yes. If you are logged in, the Street View view of each round is recorded while the round is live, shown by the red "● REC" badge in the bottom-left corner. Only admins can watch the clips, and only to look into cheating or reports. They are kept in a folder capped at 10 GB, oldest deleted first.
